When the secession crisis swept the State in early 1861 the Arkansas Secession Convention voted to remain in the Union. With these victories, the Federals carried the war into Middle Tennessee in February. It is a welcome addition to African American studies, and public and school libraries. It has 402,541 slaves and 301,271 free men. An interesting book, not only in its coverage of Longstreet, but as a reflection on how history is made, and how it can become inaccurate when personal vendettas and political pressure come into play.
